Tom on the Issues

Government needs to cut red tape and reduce taxes so businesses and entrepreneurs can create jobs. In the Legislature, Tom has worked hard to create jobs in Nebraska. He passed legislation that more than doubles the research and development tax credit, helped pass a bill to reform Nebraska’s tax incentives program to tie incentives to the creation of well-paying jobs, and introduced a bill to cut red tape and streamline the bureaucracy for small businesses.

Tom believes that we shouldn’t spend money we don’t have, and will take that common-sense approach to Washington. In the Legislature, Tom helps pass the largest tax cut in Nebraska history, and has only supported balanced budgets that do not contain tax increases. He helped repeal the marriage penalty in the state income tax and has worked to reform Nebraska’s property tax system to help homeowners.

Tom is a strong supporter of members of the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families. He will always work to make sure that they have the support they need on the battlefield and when they return home.

Tom believes that government should keep its promises – that why he opposes efforts to raise the retirement age and will vote to protect Social Security and Medicare. Tom will be a strong advocate for Nebraska’s seniors.

Nebraska has the potential to be a nationwide leader in wind energy. Tom will work to change federal rules so Nebraska can take advantage of this resource, create good jobs, and sell power to neighboring states while maintaining public power that gives us some of the lowest rates in the nation.

Washington is broken, and has been for a long time. In the Legislature, Tom has worked with Republicans and Democrats alike to create jobs, cut taxes, and balance the budget. He will be an independent, effective voice in Washington. To him, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a Republican idea or a Democratic idea, but whether it’s a good idea – one that will create jobs and move Nebraska forward.
