Statement on Sen. Ben Nelson's support for reform
Omaha, NE – State Senator Tom White released the following statement today on Senator Ben Nelson’s support of health insurance reform:
“I stand with Senator Nelson in his efforts to make health care more affordable for Nebraskans.
“Since the beginning of the health care debate, I have called on Congress to pass fiscally responsible health insurance reform that meets the following principles:
(1) Expands care and drives down costs for businesses and families;
(2) Provides patients the freedom to choose their own doctor and health care plan without causing anyone to lose his or her current coverage;
(3) Stops insurance companies from denying coverage based on a pre-existing condition or dropping coverage when a person becomes sick; and
(4) Ensures that no bureaucrat, either in Washington or at an insurance company, ever comes between a doctor, a patient and the right treatment.
Thanks to Senator Nelson, that goal is closer now than ever before.
“I’m pleased to see the pending legislation addresses these key priorities while also containing provisions similar to LB 551, the bill I passed in the Legislature to allow 20-somethings to stay on their parents’ health insurance plans.”
