Nebraska State Sen. Tom White of Omaha announced Wednesday he will run for Congress in 2010.

White said during a news conference that he feels Rep. Lee Terry and too many other politicians in Washington spend time trying to "score cheap shots" and not enough time working to meet the challenges of our country.

White has been gauging his support since July. "In the Unicameral, it does not matter if it is a Democratic idea or if it is a Republican idea. What matters is, is it a good idea that will help the people of this state, does it create jobs, does it strengthen the economy, does it encourage innovation and help our families?"

White, a lifelong Nebraskan, was elected to the Legislature in 2006. He and his wife Barb have two teenage children.
